1App Purpose

Pausee is an Android application designed to help individuals regain control of their digital habits and reduce screen time.

Modern mobile applications are designed for immediate gratification, making it easy to open distracting apps compulsively. Pausee interrupts these automatic reflexes by introducing an intentional pause (a breathing exercise, countdown timer, or mindfulness reflection prompt) before selected target apps open.

By creating a brief friction window, Pausee gives users the space to ask themselves whether they truly want to open the app or return to their real-world activities.

2Android Permissions Used

To deliver its core app-interruption and screen time management functionality, Pausee requests specific Android system permissions. Each permission is requested strictly for operational necessity:

1. Accessibility Service (AccessibilityService)

Why it is needed: Pausee uses the Android Accessibility Service API solely to detect when a user launches a designated target app (e.g., social media or entertainment apps) so it can trigger the pause screen before the target app opens.

Strict Assurance: The Accessibility Service is NEVER used to read, inspect, store, or transmit your screen text, typed messages, passwords, financial info, photos, or personal communications.

2. Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)

Why it is needed: Allows Pausee to monitor your app launch frequencies and screen time metrics locally. This enables the app to show you stats on how many pauses you successfully took and how much screen time you saved.

3. Display Over Other Apps / Overlay (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)

Why it is needed: Enables Pausee to display the full-screen intentional pause or reflection overlay directly on top of the target application when you attempt to launch it.

4. Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)

Why it is needed (if enabled): Used to deliver daily mindfulness reminders, streak achievements, break prompts, and background service status updates to ensure app reliability.

3Local-Only Data Processing

Pausee is designed with a privacy-first architecture. All calculations, application monitoring logic, pause timing configurations, and screen time statistics are processed and stored 100% locally on your device.

Your list of blocked apps, customized pause delays, usage frequency graphs, and personal preferences remain stored in local device storage (SharedPreferences / Android Room Database) and are never transmitted to any remote servers controlled by Pausee.

4Data Protection & Non-Collection Guarantee

We believe your personal phone usage and private communications belong solely to you. We explicitly guarantee the following:

  • No Unnecessary Personal Information: We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, or personal identity details.
  • No Content Logging: We do not read, record, or store the contents of your messages, passwords, photos, web browsing history, or app interactions.
  • No Selling of Data: Pausee does not sell, rent, monetize, or trade any user data to advertisers, data brokers, or third parties.

5Advertising & Third-Party Services (Google AdMob)

To support free access and continuous app development, Pausee may display non-intrusive advertisements provided by Google AdMob.

Google AdMob may collect and process certain anonymized device data (such as Advertising ID, IP address, device model, and performance diagnostics) to serve relevant ads and prevent fraud.

For detailed information on how Google collects and processes data through AdMob, please refer to:

6Data Retention

All local data (such as app delay settings, pause counters, and local app statistics) is retained on your device for as long as Pausee is installed.

You can purge all stored app data at any time by navigating to your device's Settings > Apps > Pausee > Storage > Clear Data, or simply by uninstalling the Pausee application. Once uninstalled, all local application data is immediately and permanently erased.

7User Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (such as GDPR in the European Union or CCPA in California), you have rights regarding your personal data. Because Pausee operates strictly locally without user accounts or server storage:

  • Right to Access & Control: You have complete visibility and control over all app settings directly within Pausee.
  • Right to Deletion: Clearing app data or uninstalling the app deletes 100% of stored local information without needing to send an erasure request to us.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You can pause or disable Pausee services at any time via the main app toggle or by revoking permissions.
